How To Change The Settings In Your Operating System Or Web Browser To Increase The Text Size, Making It Easier To See.

You can make the text on your computer easier to see and read in a number of ways. These guides explain how to increase the text size in your operating system (Windows or Mac). You can also make the text bigger in specific programmes such as web browsers, which will make it easier to surf the internet.

There are three ways to do this…

How To Make The Text Larger In Internet Explorer 7 For Windows

This page explains step-by-step how to increase the size of text, or make the entire web page larger, in the Internet Explorer 7 web browser running on Windows systems. You can change the settings temporarily, or for every time you surf the internet.

Step 1: Change the text size temporarily

Unlike earlier versions of Internet Explorer, IE 7 has a zoom feature that allows you to enlarge the whole browser window. To do this, press Ctrl and ‘+‘ (plus) to increase the zoom and Ctrl and ‘–‘ (minus) to decrease the zoom.

You can also change just the text size. The way to do this does depend on how the site has been built. For many sites you only need to do the following:

Click on the ‘Page‘ icon in the menu bar and then select ‘Text Size‘ from the drop-down menu, as shown in Fig 1, or press Alt + P and then press X.

Choose your preferred text size by clicking on it, or by using the up and down arrow keys and pressing Enter.

Step 2: Set your preferred text size for all web pages you visit

Some websites have fixed the size of their text (‘hard-coded’) and, as a result, these websites will not show the change you have just made. If you would like to use your larger text on these sites, follow these steps:

Click on ‘Tools‘ in the menu bar and then ‘Internet Options‘ from the drop-down menu, or press Alt + T and then press O. You should now see the ‘Internet Options’ window shown in Fig 2.

Click on the ‘Accessibility‘ button or press Alt + E.

In the ‘Accessibility’ window (shown in Fig 3), tick the box next to ‘Ignore font sizes specified on webpages‘, or press Alt + Z to tick it.

Click the ‘OK‘ button, or press Enter, to return to the ‘Internet Options’ window.

Click the ‘OK‘ button, or press Tab until it is highlighted and then press Enter, to finish and return to Internet Explorer.
